POSITION OBJECTIVE

We started a new laboratory at the MetroHealth Medical Center at the end of October, 2022.  We are recruiting two postdoctoral fellows! The post-doctoral fellows will play leading roles in the ongoing immuno-oncology, microbiome, and cancer metabolome projects.  The projects will aim to determine the mechanisms of gut microbiome and host immune cells interaction under metabolic reprogramming. The fellows will lead research projects with the aim of fostering translational research for breast cancer prevention and inhibition. Our lab culture fosters collegial and collaborative environment with a focus on training, mentorship, and scientific discovery.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.      Performs laboratory research/experiments related to the goals of the funded project, under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Work closely with other research personnel in the laboratory. 45%

2.      Performs planning, data analysis, imaging and quantification for all experiments 25%

3.      Maintains written notes and records of all experiments 10%

4.      Assists with writing, paper review and preparation of grant applications and manuscripts for publication 15%

5.      Data presentation during lab meetings and professional seminars

 

 

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

1.   Supervise junior researchers in experimental design, troubleshooting and data analysis of a variety of projects.

2.   Perform other duties as assigned.

 

CONTACTS

Department: Routine contact with PI and laboratory members

 

MetroHealth/University: Occasional contact with collaborating departments to share information

 

External: Maintain and develop contacts with external collaborators

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Mentoring/overseeing junior researchers, including students and laboratory technicians.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: PhD degree in immunology, microbiology, cancer biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or closely related fields.  >1 year of experience in molecular biology, 3D culture, human clinical samples (tissues, blood and urine), mouse studies, histological analyses, imaging analyses, FACS, immunology, pharmacology, and bioinformatics will be preferable.

 

Education/Licensing: PhD with equivalent specialized skills in immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or closely related fields required.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

1.      Experience applying cellular, molecular and biochemical approaches to solve problems in cancer biology or a related area.

2.      Proficiency in basic cell/molecular biological techniques (e.g., cell culture, immunostaining, western blot, qPCR).

3.      Experience in 3D culture, human clinical samples (tissues, blood and urine), mouse studies, histological analyses, imaging analyses, FACS, immunology, pharmacology, and bioinformatics will be preferable.

4.      Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; must demonstrate the ability to effectively and professionally communicate and work with various individuals within and external to the University.

5.      Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.  Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, and follow-through. Must be able to work under pressure and conform to shifting priorities, demands and timeline.  

6.      Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team.  Must be highly motivated, responsible, dependable and a self-starter.

7.      Effective problem-solving skills; must demonstrate innovation and creativity, excellent analytical skills, sound judgment and good decision-making. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

General laboratory environment. Expected to work after hours/weekends if required by experiments and submission deadlines.

Job Title 2: Laboratory Technician

POSITION OBJECTIVE

We are recruiting one laboratory technician who will be in charge of mouse maintenance, and most animal experiments.  The technician will work on several different mouse tumor models of breast cancer and lung cancer.  The daily duties include monitoring tumor growth, metabolic profiles, immune profiles and microbiome by utilizing different instruments, such as ultrasound and metabolic cages.  The duties also include drug treatment, surgeries, and pathological/histological examinations. All required training will be given by our scientists and Animal Research Core (ARC) of Case Western Reserve University.

 

Qualifications:

1.      Bachelor/Master's degree in Biology or relevant fields.

2.      Ability to work 10~20 hours/week.

3.      Book keeping.

4.      English communications
